Default HDMI 1.4 over 1.1

My set up is:

Pioneer 507XD (love the display even tho no 1080P)
Pioneer VSX-AX4AVI (love the sound)
Sky HD via HDMI through amp (working fine)
PS3 via HDMI through amp (was working working fine)

A couple of weeks ago the PS3 stopped playing discs (common error with disc drive) so I figured I'd get a dedicated Blu Ray player as that was all it got used for anyway. Have tried the following players :

Panasonic DMP-BD75SD (non 3d Blu Ray)
Toshiba BDX3300KB (3d player)
Pioneer BDP-150-K (3d player)
New HDMI leads

The amp will refuse to pass video through it with all three players. With each one, the player start up screen will display for maybe 5-10 seconds and then go off, the HDMI light on the amp flashes as per handshake then stays lit as if to say its handshook successfully but no picture, sound is output from the amp fine with all three.

I'm no stranger to AV and I've gone through every setting I can find with all three and the TV and the few relating to HDMI on the amp but nothing. On the 3D players I've turned 3D off as I have no interest in trying to pass 3D (TV's not 3D).

I'm aware I can got direct to TV with HDMI (which works) and use Coaxial for digital audio, but that doesn't support full HD surround sound, HDMI is needed for that hence the need to pass through the amp.

According to HDMI specs version 1.4 should be backwards compatible with versions 1.0 to 1.3 with the exception of passing sequential 3D through a 1.3 or less amp being a known issue, but I'm not using that so why doesn't the chuffin thing work????????

Anyone with any thoughts would be muchly appreciated
