Default Seat mounting height

Hi all,

I've just bought a seat (and plan to buy a second when I get the cash) for my Roadster - a Kirkey 58300LW. The issue I have is that a 'normal' seat would have runners, and a fairly substantial base, whereas the one I bought has neither - it is designed to be fixed directly to the chassis without runners and the base is literally sheet aluminum. Therefore, the seating position is about four inches lower than I think it should be (based on being able to see the front wheels over the scuttle by putting it on wooden blocks).

I think I can get away with a 2" height boost and I happen to have some 2" box steel lying around, so my question is:
Does anyone know if it's better to mount on the box steel (welded to the chassis and then the seat bolted through the box and the floor pan) or just make a *really* thick seat pad? Has anyone used one of these seats before?

Cheers,
Kev.
