Default scooby lump?

Has any body here had any dealings with making 2.0 Impreza engines run? Is it easier to use the standard ECU and bypass any imobiliser or run some thing like megajolt/squirt?
I've not taken much notice of these engines before but the unit next to me has one in the way and possibily going budgie fashion ie cheap. I was planning on using the CVH with twin 40's that lives under the bench but having had next doors Scooby pass by yesterday burbling away through a 3" pipe made me think why not. I know the engine looks quite wide but it's also quite low if it's pushed right back it might fit? Now wheres that tape......
