Mild steel does indeed rust but I made my own tank from mild steel 2 years ago now and its still like new

The sheet was very clean though and the exterior was powder coated

I had the sender out a couple of weeks ago and the inside is looking good

Ally tanks definately are more appropriate than steel but they can be costly in comparison, steel does the job if done correctly just like it does in lots of production cars that see more miles and winter months than our roadsters ever will!
