I've put a 3VZ into an MR2 and they're a great engine.
A couple of issues is that they're not the cheapest engines as there aren't too many about and all the MR2 boys want them. Secondly you'll need to source or adapt a suitable RWD gearbox, possibly Lexus?
The 1MZ is weaker in some areas but is a good bit lighter so probably better in a 7 type car.
