Thanks guys, I think that helps!
The exit on my can is quite short, and comes out at an angle which would make it difficult to get a clamp around it like you've both done, so I guess I'll have to come up with another plan.

In terms of position, pretty much every 7 I've seen has the can in roughly this position:




Would it look completely stupid if I positioned it futher forward like this:



If I put it in the second place the kids are less likely to stand on it / burn themselves on it getting in and out, plus it saves me a few feet of exhaust tube!
Just not sure if people will point and laugh if it's not in the more traditional location
