dummy shocks

i will soon have my chassis rolling but first i need to knock up some dummy shocks
what size should i cut some tubing at and what hole centres roughly

My dummies are currently 15" total length and 14" between hole centres. Made from 25mm box section

For a book spec Sierra chassis with TMXR wishbones as supplied by talon

To be honest I am also not 100% sure what lengths are needed. I age read so many different approaches (length, spring rate etc). The original book was amended and there is some details in stickies.
I believe 14" open 9.5" closed all around are required. Shocks around 350lbs and 250lbs
Protech have a good reputation and they do a kit for Haynes builds for £452 - quite expensive but with a roadster where handling is all important I will be going that route over something a little cheaper at the compromise of handling.

Cut some blocks of wood to 4 1/2 and 5 1/2 ins long,put 4 1/2 under front of chassis and 5 1/2 at rear and this will give you a decent final ride height.

Make four rods to fit shocker bracket centers and you have the correct height to work from.

And Neil is dead right about the handling,makes a difference !

Hi,

Part numbers for Gaz Shocks on my invoice from Rally Design are:

G140/095B12-2
G = Gaz
140= 14'' open
095 = 9.5'' closed
B12 = bush mounted (12mm rod)
2 = 2'' body

Springs:
2.25'' x 8'' x 350 lbs springs : part number = RD1193/8
2.25'' x 8'' x 250 lbs springs : part number = RD1189/9

Do they need to be 2 1/4 or is the 1.9 shocks adequate

2'' 1/4 is the diameter of the spring. The shocks are 2''. I don't know if 1.9'' shocks are suitable. Personally, I would not take the risk to downsize this crucial element of the suspension. But it is just me
