Original mini had the battery in the boot too. And the fuel tank. I was considering putting mine in the back left corner when I get that far with it...

As long as it's in a separate box and that box is vented away from the fuel tank.
Battery is secured correctly and the cables are run in a sensible route (plus big enough) There shouldn't be an issue. I put a gel battery in the passenger foot well bit easier for cable running.

The answer .None:
It would take two things to cause a problem with battery and fuel in the rear of the car, accumulation of fumes from fuel tank and a dickhead that would leave something loose/near some thing to spark to ignite said vapour. Iva fail I believe to seal rear compartment if it contains fuel tank.

I was up at 3AM, start work at 8:45...
Perils of being on call and automated allerting of system failuers that are not realy a failure... Back to bed at 3:30, back to sleep at 5:30, up at 6:50... BAck on topic though. Can you not bolt through the trans tunnel. TT
