Zetec Engine Position.
Hi Guys,
Just droped my engine in my chassis, ready to design and build engine mounts etc. One question on location of engine in the rearward direction etc. At presesnt its sat about 10-15mm forward between the bulkhead horizantal top bar and the theromostat etc. This obvioulsy has the issue of the gear stick will clash with one of the horizantal transmission tunnel bars. So I see some have added the gear stick mechanisum extention etc from Burtom Power and others. Some have cut the bulkhead horizantal out where the thermostat is, welded another piece back to back and so allowing the engine to go back another 25mm etc. What have you guys done and what do you prefer? Cheers! |

I think most people move the thermostat housing somewhere else on the cooling circuit with some kind of conversion kit, so they can seat the engine as far back as possible.

Standard practice on Zetec RWD is to relocate the water rail / thermostat.
My CVH sits with the Type 9 in a good location, so adding the gearstick remote extension would put the engine way forward which is not going to be gr8. TT

Hi Guys,
I have cut out the chassis and added a rail behind so it can go back 25mm more. also looking into the conversion. Any other suppliers than Burton? Cheers! |

The remote thermostat solutions have a downside that the thermostat proper will be further from the head, so it will take longer to react to heat.
