Hi all. Is there any other car that someone has used instead of a Sierra, BMW or MX5.?

I could be wrong, but think even the BMW engined builds use Sierra diff and driveshafts?

There's a chap who posts on Locostbuilders sometimes who did a rebody of an old VW Beetle into something resembling a Locost, because of the limitations on registering kit/amateur build cars in his country (somewhere in Eastern Europe I believe).

There was someone who posted on here several years ago who I think was/is in Thailand - he made plans to use a live rear axle from something like a Suzuki Carry(aka Bedford Rascal in UK) I think.

You could look to other Ford donors with live axle - e.g. Capri/Cortina or similar - which would suit a Locost build, rather than a Haynes Roadster.

Are you specifically looking to avoid Ford/BMW/MX-5 donor? If so, why?

Personanly I can't se the point in anything other than a Sierra or MX5 based Roadster but maybe you could use an engine and gearbox for either base from another front engined rear wheel drive car - or make a type 9 fit an ST170 er or something. Please expand on the question OP
