Default Cats?

If I go down the route of a zetec engine post 1994 where do I stand regarding emmission regs, do I need a catalitic converter? I did see them for sale on MK website, it seems a shame to fit one though?

Thanks

Mike

Also, anyone know if a bike-engined car needs a catalyst if the engine is post G-reg?

Regards, Ian

Question Cats

Hi Guys, What happens when you use an engine that was built before 1995 that had a cat fitted e.g. Zetec. I seem to remember reading that it still need a cat,
look forward to your answers, Mike

It's all in the SVA manual, which really is something you need when building a kit car. At the end of the day you are building it on their terms, so it's best to know what their terms are!

The book states that there is a list of "in service exhaust emissions standards for road vehicles"
If the model it was lifted from is in those standards, then it needs one.
you have to provide manufacturers evidence of the date of manufacture and that it wasn't manufactured with a catalytic converter.

Of course I may be reading the Manual wrong, it was designed to deceive.
