a friend has given me a full bottle of argoshield heavy about 5 ft tall and ball breakingly heavy. before i go and buy a regulator for it,is it the best gas to weld the chassis with.
im only used to machine mart chuck-aways.

Yep that will be fine for welding up the chassis. Might be a little heavy for very thin sheet but should be fine with a little practice.

If it's a full bottle, it should last a while aswell. Just remember to turn the reg off when not using it, the buggers always leak when you least expect it.

Argoshield will be just fine

I use it full time & never had any problem welding thinner material .5mm -10mm !!??

Mig welding thin materials is more to do with technical ability rather than the gas being used

EDIT

I am assuming you mean the gas in the Turquoise bottle with the Green band on the top ( Argoshield universal )

Plain Turquoise bottle will be pure argon and as said might be a tad heavy going but useable nonetheless.

Argoshield HEAVY is specifically made for welding material over 10mm thick, and while their datasheet says it can be used on thinner metal, it says weld integrity may become an issue.

Regular argoshield is probably what most people use for mig welding.... hell I've even used it for TIG, but it runs mighty mighty super duper hot.

the bottle was a freebie but i think ill get a smaller bottle anyway as the regulator and pipe kit are going to cost.?????
and its so bloody heavy as well,it looks like an icbm straped in the corner of my garage.
i also had some damage to my garage in the storm on saturday and some of my stuff got wet.spent 3 hrs putting a new tarpaulin on the roof in very windy conditions, must have looked more mental than usual.
dried all of the sheet bits and sprayed wd40 over everything to hold surface rust at bay.
hopefully my armoto chassis will come this week sometime.

Bad news about the roof, hope you get it sorted before your shiny chassis pack turns up.

I use Argoshield Heavy for MIG thin & thick (0.6mm - 8mm) at home and upto about 25mm with the proper welders at work. And it seems to do the job
Only pure argon for TIG though, never tried mixes.
