Default Engine mount position

wasn,t sure which section to put this in but here,s my question......

where have you positioned the engine mounts for a 1.8CVH ?

installing engine into chassis today, gearbox already in, when i positioned the engine in & mated upto the gearbox i found i needed to move the gearbox forward by 15mm, not a prob...... so then started looking at height of everything, got it more or less spot on, even put nose & bonnet on to check clearence, i now have 5inches clearence from floor to sump, 4 inches from floor to bottom of bellhousing, is this about right?

i have found that i can use the original sierra rubber mounts as follows, near side as normal, offside, if i turn the ali sierra engine mount upside down & bolt into the block with only 2 bolts i can still fit the original rubber mount in place without fouling the steering column.

my question is this..........is it ok to just have 2 bolts bolted into the block instead of 3?
does the height clearence sound about right?

the forward edge of the crank pully is 95mm back from BR7.

all seems to fit ok, just want your advice/opinions before i weld the engine mounts into position.

Hi Andy

As my CVH engine was test fitted in theory only, I can't offer you any exact advice.
Even more so now I am going the Zetec route

Your ground clearance sounds OK but I would be very reluctant to rely on only two bolts holding the mount to the block.

It might be wise to fabricate a new mounting for the steering shaft side of the engine.

cheers Ronnie, having now given this a little more thought, what i intend is to make up a 5mm plate that i can attach to the 3 mounting holes in the ali bracket & a 4th hole to then bolt all of the fixing points into the block, i,ll give it a go & see how it works out,
this way it uses the original ali brackets & original rubber mountings

Make a template of the mounting you cant use by drawing round it on the plate with a scriber,mark the holes as well. I think you will find mounting pics on Frankieboy's Flickr.
Fabricate with some box section and use old rubber mount

Make a plate that fits the motor then two plates that fit your chosen rubbery thing...bolt the plate to the motor and line up the rubbery thing on the chassis rails on it's plates then carefully cut a lump of 2" diameter tube and weld it between the two...............simples and very neat.

Works for the Pinto as well as the Zetec motors even the toyota 4age lump
