I may have missed the point here but flipping the alternator so it faces back towards the engine will make it run backwards.
Consider the belt as circle, as long as the alternator is in the circle it will run the same way wherever it is mounted. If the belt turns clockwise any pulley inside will turn the same way, anything outside will turn the opposite way |
