Steering rack polly bushes, & brake discs.
Hi I noticed last night that my steering rack poly bushes have a cutout/ recess on the bottom as well as the one all the way round where the clamp seats.
The rack chassis plates are 30mm accross but the recess is say 25mm. Just wondered how anyone else seated these on the rack plates. Thought they may need a packing piece or cutting to fit. http://www.agmotorsport.co.uk/images...ddeb45b4fda697 Also do all sierras have vented front discs, I was given 4 front calipers when I bought my diff and am not sure what discs to buy. Many thanks Chris. |

not sure how those clamps/bushes actually work, i got my rack clamps from Rally Design, they are ali & look really nice, they come with a small "packer" that sits underneath the rack (inbetween the rack & the rack chassis plate), i think they cost £20 for the pair.
as for vented discs, i maybe wrong but think its only the early 1.3 engined sierra that had solid discs, so if you ask at a motor factors for std sierra discs (240mm) then they would be supplied as vented discs, maybe take your caliper with you when you order the discs. andy

Thanks for the advice I think I'll go and get some discs soon.
As for the bushes I think a bit if playing may be in order. When you use the ali rack clamps do you stil have a bit of the pinion casting left sticking below the packer that helps stop the rack moving left to right? Obviously the clamp also fits around the top of that casting lip to stop this also. P.S I riveted my floor on a couple of weeks ago Andy, screwfix discontinued the grippa sealed rivets but I got some from else where. Learnt a valuable lesson, do not get sikaflex on your hands! People at work kept asking me for a week what was wrong with my fingers! Last edited by chriseyj : 22nd September 2009 at 03:13 PM. |

The alloy rack clamps from Rally Design come with packer plates that go under the pinion casting.
These ensure a rock solid fixing A good quality product My trusty Haynes manual ( 1982-192 ) lists the following data for the Sierra front disks. 1.3 & 1.6 fitted with 240mm solid front discs 1.8 & 2Litre fitted with 240mm vented front disks As Andy said, any caliper type/part numbers may be usefull to ensure the correct discs are bought

I can add to Bonzo's info, ABS equipped cars come with 260mm vented discs (I know cos I have them!), and are a good cheap upgrade for bigger brakes.

Cheers for the info, do you need the abs calipers or do the larger discs work with the standard calipers for vented discs? I think mine came off a 1.8, can i measure the caliper width to get an I idea of whether they will work with vented discs, perhaps the carrier will give me an idea.
Also has any one used the drum to disc aapters? have seen them on 3ge and read about them somewhere else but cant see any pics. It look like they will make the caliper mount further back than usual? |

I have used them and they are very well made,I am using Audi calipers so they need a little fettling but no problems.
