Using a idle pully to tighten driving belt?

As im using a Blacktop zetec engine, I need an idler pully to make my water pump spin the right way. Its going to be easier to make this tighten the belt, instead of the usual way of using the alternator, can anyone see a problem with this??]

Should be fine to use the idler to tension - the duratecs do just that as do most modern engines. Means you can rigidly bolt the alternator to the block which gets it a lot closer too that helps fitting it all in.

You will need to find a suitable way of sliding or pivoting the idler though.

Cool, Think i was going to struggle to get the alternator in underneith my TB's ( ) and oil filter, will post a picture of what I plan to do in a minute

What about an external spring loaded tensioner like most modern cars are fitted with now,Peugeot use an eccentric as well to tension the belt on the HDI engines,you could possibly use a shorter belt as well.

I think i demolished one a spring tentioner trying to make my idler pully...
