locost/haynes
Hi guys,
reading both books, chris gibbs and ron champion at the moment for info on my build. Im looking to buy my chassis from Talon motorsport when I take the plunge, what is this more suited too? Haynes or Locost. From what I can see both of these are pretty similar, can someone tell me the exact differences and will I come across any problems by borrowing a bit from each book or not? I plan on either using a Sierra donor if I can get one cheap or just sourcing a few necessary Sierra parts and going for the zetec or Duratec lump. Any ideas, input is welcome and appreciated. the talon chassis is a haynes chassis straight from the book with no modifications as far as i am aware. the ron champion book is the old version of the current haynes book
the old locost book utilises an old escort running gear which is like rocking horse poo to get hold of these days. it is also non independent suspension at the rear. there are also known issues with the steering geometry and front suspension. the new haynes book is a cad drawn chassis that has been modelled for better strength. the rear suspension is independent and there are no issues with bump steer or poor front suspension geometry. it also utilises a sierra donor car, i know they are getting a bit harder to come by but cheep ones can be found, i don't recall anyone on here paying more than £300 for one. |

A thing to keep in mind is that Haynes chassis is an inch wider, so the Locost GRP bodywork won't fit without modification.

I'll make a chassis to any width or height and fit any thing you want but yes the chassis supplied unless otherwise stated is as per the haynes book.
