Rear fog
As some of you know im going to be applying for my iva in the next few days
I noticed in tillys thread that ash said the fog light can only work with dipped or full beam. Is this absolutely certain? (i know it probably is otherwise ash wouldnt have said so ) As on lots of production cars they can be turned on with only sidelights, sierra included. At times when i have driven in very thick fog my headlights were reflecting back and dazzling me so i drove with only sidelights on and front/rear fog lights. I have used a stripped down sierra loom so mine come on with side lights aswell as dipped and main beam. If this needs to be changed do any of you with car electrickery experience know the easiest way to resolve this as my car is fully wired all clipped up neat and tidy, everything works so im reluctant to start chopping into again if its not necessary. |

I can't give you a precise answer.
Just presuming that the regulations were changed when it became illegal to drive in poor visibility conditions on sidelights only On my last few daily drivers, it has only been possible to turn the rear foglights on when the headlaps are on

sorry mate its a rule and they specifically check for it on the test. simple option is to power your fog light circuit off the headlamp relay with a switch in the +ve line, that's how i did it.
its a new little ruel they snuck into the iva. think yourself lucky your not a car manufacturer. the regs for them require the fogs to automatically go to the off position when the ignition is turned off and back on again. Last edited by AshG : 9th March 2010 at 02:09 PM. |

Here it's a common MOT fail point for vehicles imported from USA. The owners *must* add a rear foglight, mount it not less than 25 cm above the ground, and hook it up to the dipped beam circuit.

In 19 years I think I have only had cause to use rear fogs maybee 10 times at most
They should make cars that leave them on beep 3 times and then explode into a million bits. TT
