Paint spraying expert question
I have started my spraying.
I'm using single pack, metalic paint. Question, do I flat it back before I spray the clear coat? If it was non metalic I would, but don't want to spoil the metalic finish. Also, for everyone, take a look at this. Its a air scoop I've been playing with to cover my Pinto Plenum. I know it's not the pretty'st thing but in an attempt to make it look better. Wondering if I cut out the sides with holes or a slot would it improve its looks. Moding the Plenum ain't an option at the moment. So question: Do I fit it as it is? Do one of the cutouts? Or just bin it, and leave the Plenum exposed? Coz that scoop will always look pants, no mater what I do..

no do not flat back the metalic coat unless you get runs in it, in which case you flat it back then re spray it
let it dry then shoot the clear then flat off and compound pollish |

Thanks for the reply Tilly.
Pretty much what I though. Just wanted to double check not to flatten of metalic paint. As for painting on THAT table.... I'd be in trouble if she see the picture of the scoop on it. Talking of scoop... 56 views and no comments. Come on guys. What would you do ??

dont flat it down unless you have to. The thing you have to watch out for is that you put it on wet enough. If you dont then the metalic flakes have a tendancy to stand up on end rather than settle flat. If they are sticking up when yo come to put the clear coat on, they stickup through meaning the base coat is never sealed. It will look ok for a while but the finish will quickly fail.
Best thing to do is spray the base, let it flash off for 15-20mins then go straight for clear. As for the scoop its pig ugly what happened to the kia one |

Personally i would bin that scoop!
You have built an entire car, so im damn sure you can come up with something better than that one |

Unfortunatly the Kia one wont go over the Plenum.
Think I may well be tempted to leave the Plenum sticking through the bonnet. And get it moded after Stonleigh. Then I could use the kia scoop to cover the ole..

Emmm , not sold.
I am thinking of using the Vac former at work to form a bulge in a translucent plastic. And then poilsh my 2.9 Plenum. TT
