Unhappy rack exstension problem

got my mk2 escort steering rack on. and read in previous threads that you have to take 15mm of the book spec steering rack exstensions. so iv had them made, 130mm body length rather than 145mm. and they are still about 35mm out, both drivers side and passenger side?

has the over all exstension got to measure 130mm??? or is it 130mm body length and then your 40mm thread to take the trak rod. which would make it 170mm obviously? read as much as i can on previous posts but still confused

I'm not sure which threads you are referring to, but there shouldn't be any problems with the steering rack extensions. Do you have any links to them?

However I do know there was an issue with the driveshafts being too long with the original wishbones, meaning they had to be shorted. But shortly after the release of the book, Chris released a revised edition with longer rear wishbones to solve the problem, meaning no modifications needed to be made.

EDIT: I think I might be wrong about what I said about the driveshafts, I think it was the steering rack which had the issues, but Chris made the wishbones longer to ensure that everything fit without modifications,

so body length is 110mm and then you'v got the 40mm thread for the track rod. so overall you have 150mm?? is that correct

Others have used ally, cant see why it would not be allowed if its fit for the purpose.

Just remember for prolonged use steel and ally react together and form a white powder (No you cant sell it in little packets!).

Not sure how long my thread is.
It's been a while since it's been apart.
But yes the body is 110mm plus the thread for the ball joint.

I made my extensions as a threaded tube, all the way through.
Then got some threaded bar in one end. ( Actualy a cut down 75mm set bolt)
So probably right with 110+40=150mm
