Talking Transfering Reg numbers

I have a old car that is not on the road so has no MOT and not likely to have one with a quite a nice Reg Number.
But it is not a Sierra
If I build a Roaster and not use any parts off this other Vehicle can I use the Reg Number on it.

any one any idear.

Thanks
TrollyJack

You don't get the number plate off the donor car just an age related plate ie if the donor is a 'H' reg then the age related plate you will get will also be an 'H' but not the same number

I think the vehicle bearing the plate has to have been taxed not more than IIRC 6 months prior to transfer. No recent tax = no transfer. No MOT/insurance = no tax. You probably could release the plate another way but the means would probably be regarded as dodgy. Actually, no, it is dodgy!!

If your roadster gets a "Q" plate then you cannot transfer another plate to it. Also you cannot make the car look younger than it is so if your roadster has a 'J' plate for example you cannot transfer a 'K' plate to it, any prior and including 'J' would be ok

I knew a guy who was trading plates at one time. He favoured Land Rovers. Find an old wreck in a field and buy it. Remove chassis plates (only form of ID on a LR). Submit the plates on a roadworthy LR for MOT. Obtain MOT cert and tax vehicle (usually tax exempt). This would release the plate for sale and the roadworthy LR returns to its former ID.

As I said, dodgy as you like!!!

No it applies to vehicles built prior to 1973. It won't apply to the plate and it is effectively now a different vehicle.
