Default Self Build Silencer

Hi all,

Had my roadster on the road for bout a year with the noisiest cbr1000 engine ever. managed to get it through IVA with a pack of wire wool up the exhaust to read 97db without its stupidly noisey with plenty of pops and bangs great for a bit after an hour or so gets abit tiresome, an i wont beable to get on any trackdays or hill climb as it is.

Going to build a new silencer 600mm long and bigger diameter, daft question but will it need packing, dont really want to cut the one i have into pieces to find out whats inside?

Regards Jon

there is a trick to droping db's for iva or trackdays by using a stepped down bit of pipe in the exhaust with the thin end pointing to the engine so there is a gap between the outer pipe and the step down pipe.
somtimes called db killers

also im pritty sure a motorbike track endro guy told me if you over pack your noise goes up as its to do with damping waves of pressure

Or for track days you could clamp a bean tin with a load of holes in it on the end of the exhaust that shuts them up a bit

Thanks guys for the advice,

the silencer i have is a basic Robin Hood silencer at low revs sounds like an Impreza , 6-11k revs may aswell not be there.

My 600 bandit race can is filled with what looks like wire wool, would this work as good as some wadding off ebay?

ACOUSTAFIL is the best stuff i have found. have a chat with paul gooderham he made my silencer and it is a serious piece of art and very quiet compared to my old one.

tell him ashg sent you his way and im sure he will sort you out something to your requirements for less money than most places.
