How to connect a Ford Zetec 2.0 crank sensor ?
Hi everybody, I'm preparing everything to connect my zetec to my Emerald ECU. I'm having some doubts bout connecting the crank sensor. The diagram from the Emerald says: Sensor + Crank sensor or digital distributor input signal Sensor - Earth return for main/cam trigger sensors How can i find out wich is + and - on my sensor ? Many Thanks ! |

cant answer your question full (sorry) but it depends if it a hall type or inductive. they produce different patterns , now i stand corrected on this but if im thinking correct inductive wouldnt matter as its an alternating scope pattern.
you dont by any chance have an occiloscope do you ? Mike |

from memory no 1 is +ve look hard at the connector and you will see they are marked 1 and 2. it wont do any harm if you put them the wrong way round so don't worry too much.

ha ha this is one i always find funny as the pickup is simply a magnet with a thin copper wire around it as the the teeth pass it it chops the magnetic flux and induces a sharp ac wave/voltage in the copper wire.
the idea is to get the ecu phased to the engine. if the wires are switched it offsets the phasing as the up peak would be down. here is some pic's of a ford one as iirc there all the same Last edited by baz-r : 16th January 2012 at 08:33 PM. Reason: link/pics |

oh and cam and abs picups work the same and wires must be screened as at low rpms voltage is low and we can get lots of interferance from almost anything that gives off rf (coils,ht's,relays, alternators and so on)
