Glueing Edge Trim to GRP
I've reached the stage where I want to glue some rubber u channel trim onto my bonnet and wings. I've got some no more nails stuff knocking about and was wondering if that stuff would be up to the job. If not can anyone suggest a good cheapish alternative?

Most contact adhesives will do it as long as the surface isn't shiney, you will need to "kill" the wax in the gel coat whatever you use anyway.

so how do i "kill" the wax in the gel coat? is it as simple as just sanding the area down 1st?

I would use some simple panel wipes the type you would use before painting a car

BTW, laminating resins are waxed but gelcoats are unwaxed and needed to be shielded from oxygen to be able to cure - hence used in a female mold and laminated over. Flowcoat (covercoat) on the inside of moldings, IOW over the laminates are also waxed to be able to cure... Contact glue should do the trick or use SikaFlex 292 (expensive way) |

To "kill" the wax sand both the gel and matt faces then wipe with minimal amount of acetone...It only sticks when you don't want it to
