Baseboard from MDF?

Will there be any issues with building the baseboard from MDF? Is this ok to weld on or is it likely to set on fire?

Its no more likely to set on fire than plywood or similar

Mdf does tend to sag though but if its a thick sheet and its well supported it should be ok

You can use anything you want as long as its perfectly flat and braced well enough for it to stay that way

I built mine from 22mm MDF,just put in plenty of bracing and couple of coats of white paint(water based is best ).

I used MDF too (25mm I think). It was ok, but it did sag fairly quickly in areas where it wasn't well supported.

I did set it on fire once or twice when welding, but it doesn't burn very fast and is easy to pat out if you're wearing welding gloves

I built mine with 19mm mdf, two sheets with two inch by three inch frame work between both but it still saged a bit. Just make sure you have plenty of supports

I used MDF but would go for ply if I did it again as like others I had problems with it sagging and for the small added cost feel ply would be better.

Ply is better as MDF is a sponge and will absorb moisture and expand, you then end up with a bent chassis.

Thanks guys,

I ended up building my tables at the weekend and used ply for the top. Its painted white and my steel was delivered yesterday so I can make a start!
