The Haynes is a very slightly larger car whilst still being very much a 7 and still looking all in proportion. It is a stronger version of the original Ron Champion design and benefits from independant rear suspension instead of the Cortina/ Capri solid axle in the earlier car.
The Haynes book allows for 2 variations in transmission tunnel size to suit either the Type 9 or the wider MT75 Ford gearboxes. If you are going for an MX 5 engine and gearbox use the chassis option for the MT75 width as this will give enough clearance for the MX5 Mazda gearbox. If you want to use an MX5 as your main build donor, this is fully supported too and you should start by downloading the MX5 adapted plans from either the Saturn/ NTS site and/ or the Vodou site. When used alongside the Chris Gibbs book these will provide a set of plans for building a Haynes Roadster using an MX5 donor.
Talk to HandyAndy or Talon if you need a flat pack or welded chassis to suit.
