Front lower wishbone build
Hi everyone,
I'm fully prepared to be told I'm a complete moron for missing something completely obvious, but here goes anyway... I'm at the stage where I'm building my wishbones. The part thats causing me problems is the frame for supporting the plate (page 57, Fig. 5.4); as far as I can tell it needs to be 5mm higher! The other option would be to tack the plate to the tubes without the 5mm spacers in place... Is this something that I've gotten wrong or just missed someones solution? |

Well, in order for the wishbone bushes to be completely symmetric, the tubes should be spaced out from the plate by 4.3 mm. In order for the plate to be centered on the tube, it should be raised a further 10 mm, to a total of 14.3 mm above the surface of the base plate. So, I'd say, you are correct.
Note that the height of this plate support structure was not specified in the first edition of the book, and was provided in the amendments instead.

Hooray! I've noticed something and been correct for once!!!
Cheers for the info Alga, I'm suprised I've never seen this mentioned anywhere else. My book is the second edition (corrected version I believe) and I made the support plate as stated. Result: No fit! Will go back to my shed and have a tinker now... |
