Oil sump tp grpund distance

Based on your experience, how much should be the minimum distance between the lower point of the oil sump to the ground? This will take into consideration the usual dampers/springs used on a Haynes Roadster (GAZ, Protech etc).

On my current setup i am afraid i am a bit low but i have the option to correct this. I use a bike engine and with the front ride height set to about 10cm, the distance between the sump and ground will be about 5-6 cm.

I know that i can go for a higher ride height at the front, but do you think i am in danger? Thanks!

I thought i read about this in another thread years ago,
120-150mm chassis height and 25-40mm below the chassis rail?
I'm sure someone else will confirm this thou.

Fit a sump guard, its an expensive mistake waiting to happen if you don't! And it does happen!

Some guys have reported grounding out with only an inch of sump hanging under the car. At 5cm thats just an accident waiting to happen sump guard or not.

My engine sump sits about 1cm above the bottom of chassis rail . Thinking of putting a skid plate under chassis for just in case...

book says 25mm below iirc

i have mine set to this with a zetec shortend sump. you need to take care to not reduce your sump capacty too much or mount your engine too high and raise c of g.

if i get trobble im going to make a batwinged sump
