Default Rack doesn't fit???

I offered up my steering rack today after tidying up - I just wanted to see how solid the steel rack mounts felt to decide if I would buy the alloy ones.

Anyway, I bought it second hand as an escort mk2 rack, but it doesn't look like it'll fit the mounts. With one of the mounts lined up, the other is too far across, as shown in the pics.

Are there different types of the rack that mount differently or am I doing something stupid???

Few pics:

Can you measure the hole centres they should be 258mm the two strips that make the jig on my bench are 285 apart, you've got me worried now.....

I took a photo with a tape against it in case I needed a measurement:

It looks like the centres are less than 258mm, I can measure properly in the morning

Well I think it's fairly obvious that the outer edges are 258mm apart not the hole centres. Permission to say 'ooh cock!'

Permission granted phil.

Looks like you will have to cut them off and reweld or cut some new ones, will also need a new diagonal as will be short.

I haven't fully welded mine in yet until I get a rack as there has been a few threads debating the hole centre dimension in the book. if 258mm is correct I will get them fixed tomorrow.
