Painting Bodywork

Hi Guys,

I have finally gotten around to making my side panels and the like. I'm debating whether or not to have the panels all painted up before permanently fitting them, or whether to fit them and then have the car painted.

I'm going to get someone to do the painting for me since my spraying has never been top notch. I was thinking it might be better to get the car painted once the panels are all fitted since things like the joint between the side panel, the infill piece and rear tub could be smoothed and painted over.

What are your thoughts?

Hi Jon,

I would personally go for having the panels taken off the car and sprayed individually before assembling them onto the car - it allows for whomever paints it to get a full even coat on the part and won't have the risk of any over spray onto other parts of the car.

By the way, who is doing your painting for you?

Thanks for that, will get it all finished and then off for spraying :-)

Not sure yet who is going to paint the car, I will have to do some hunting around to find someone in Norfolk to do it for me (and who has a good reputation).

If I do the bodywork off the car (which sounds like the way to do it) how have people addressed the joints between panels?

check out a company called Lustre Coatings, they're up near Wymondham and come highly recommended for GRP panel painting.
