It's not recomended as the whole lot needs shortend to bring the inner joints in line with the pivot point of the suspension.

Shorten Sierra steering rack
I have just shortened a Sierra rack without problems.
Dissassambled the thing, shortened the housing and the rack 223 mm. Soldered the housing and reinforced it with a sleeve. The thing is not installed yet so I dont know how it fits and works, but the shortening job was easy. Have some pictures if you want to see them, may send by email MacFRASSE
