Cutting floor out of a full sheet of aluminium
I've just got round to ordering a full sheet of 3mm aluminium for my floor panel but as the sheet is 2500x1250 I'm assuming I can get more than just the floor panel out of it.
I'm thinking I could at least get the seat back panel out of it too. Any ideas if I will be able to squeeze anything else out of it? Not had a measure up but just wondering how others have put theirs to best use. |

I'm going to be ordering my aluminium for my floor in a few weeks and when I measured my floor I'll get the back out of it to. The floor and back is just under 2.5m

I think Alga did a post a while ago with a diagram on what can be got out of sheets of material...

Oh right, I did do a search but nothing came up.
Will have to try harder. I'm pretty happy if I can get the floor and seat back out of one sheet, anything else would be a bonus. Then for the rest of the car use a thinner sheet. |

You mean this? http://www.haynes.co.uk/forums/showp...3&postcount=16
I used 2 mm half-hard for the floor and made a book spec fuel tank out of the rest. 3 mm will be hard to bend for the tank.

3mm is pretty hefty and definitely overkill for anything but the floor. My floor is 1.5mm 5251 and is plenty strong enough for me getting in and out without warping.
Saying that heres what I got out of a 2500 x 1250 sheet. Cheers Stot

I am also about to order the aluminium for my floor. I was going to use 3mm thick. This will probably have to wait until next month now but I have got the rivets ready, and a handbrake cable on its way which is a nice little job to keep me occupied until then.
I have been busy plumbing the brake line, all works with no leaks so well chuffed. I will have to update my blog with some pics soon.
