Making engine mounts, your tips please!
I sense a weekly ritual of asking advice... I am really struggling with making my engine mounts. I tacked some together a while ago with the engine dangling from the crane. I found that, when I took the weight of the crane the land rover rubber mounts compressed and the engine dropped from where I'd positioned it...
I've ground the welds off and am starting again. Today I tried supporting it from underneath with wood, but it just rocked about as soon as I touched it. Plus, actually cutting the box section to fit is a HELL of a challenge, any tips on that?

Secure the engine at the right height before you do anything,make the engine plates and bolt them on then get whatever metal you intend to use and then its trial end error to get the angles right.

Don't know what engine your using but if you are doing a MX5 build I had mine made by Phil Talonmotorsport perfect fit .

Some how I made my engine mount 32mm too low, so the engine ports ran straight through the top rail. Once I realised this I packed it up with some 10mm plate (3 of) and it seems fine to me.
One day I will remake the engine mount. |

more or less as fly said I put my engine plates and the rubbers in plave first then cut the box to fit it is fiddily but its the best way i reckon.

Another thought,forget the book mounting plates and just put 5mm plate on chassis legs at the front.
