Had a chance to have a good look around the engine and box today and run a tape over it and compare to my chassis. The front corners of the valve covers will poke 20-30mm out side of the chassis so no major problem and they also fit between the top and bottom rails with not a huge amount of sump hanging below the chassis. It's got the whole wiring loom with it so should be plug and play more or less (fingers crossed).
The exhaust manifold(s) could be interesting though, I thought about bringing them towards br7, joining them together and chosing a side to exit them on. Another option is to have one either side and have it sound like a V twin

how are you going to get it in the chassis if the cylinders stick out?
Or are you thinking of bulging the top rails? TT

Yes that has been pointed out to me and I had these thoughts (and yes it did hurt).
Option 1: fit the gear box first, turn the engine 90' to the chassis, turn engine with in chassis and bolt up. Could result in a few crushed fingers etc... Option 2: build another chassis on the bench with tr1+2 removed , fit engine and box weld back up and worry about getting it out when it goes wrong.... Option c: forget the whole idea and fit an in line four pot but where's the fun in that.....

I've now got the lump in my shop and stripped all the front sub frame off it, I like scooby drive shafts just knock the roll pin out and pull the shaft off. Today I cut through TR1+2 in my Roadster +4 chassis and removed half the type9 tunel, half of that was a mistake as an impreza engine basicly fits a standard chassis,Doh! So I'm going to use my chassis of now many parts to mock up the engine mounts and tunel ect and make a new one with new steel.

I don't think it will be as amazing as you would think as it's the non turbo lump and the AWD gear box is not all that light. I'm putting in a steel floor and using 1mm zintec for the panels as it's 1/4 the price of ali sheet. This will hopefuly be a budget build and be a bit of a challenge to give me some thing new to do other than standard parts.

How to convert the Scooby Box
Hi
The Scooby box isn't all that difficult to mod to two wheel drive. All the info is here. http://www.clubwrx.net/forums/powert...wd-w-pics.html You will need to log into the site to see the pix. Good luck Chris |

I had a look at the 2wd conversion and there are a few points that concern me. Where it says remove a few components and weld back together that tends to lead to misalinement and breaking under stress, espesh if welding cast and hardened parts such as diff parts. I think it will be more reliable to just leave it alone as it currently works and does'nt drip oil.
I've chopped the chassis around and removed the 1600 CVH mounts to accomadate the exhaust manifolds and sat the engine and box in it's tempary home untill I get the clean chassis made.
