Finally made my mind up on engine, emissions?

I like your thinking here Gaz. Only issue is I still done know what the advantage of using a pre '95 engine is?

Do they not have emissions data for pre '95 zetecs? therefore emissions test would be more relaxed.

I only ask cos all zetecs had cat, and would therefore need the equivalent CAT test, unless they(vosa) did not have data to compare. In which case emissions test figures would be more relaxed.

Hope this makes sense, I am confusing mself now!

They can't prove your engine needs a cat because the Haynes Roadster Isn't in their data book. This means the emissions will be tested on the manufacture date of the engine. Ford will apparently give you a letter stating the age if you give them the engine number.

I hope all that ^ is true because that's the route I'm going.

Ahh! OK gaz I understand your thinking.

My only question to this would be:

I thought they went on the engine number and emissions test appropriate for the engine, not the car(haynes roadster).
The reason I ask is if they dont have emissions data for the Haynes roadster you could fit any engine and still meet the same requirements! For example a 2000 blacktop would require a CAT, but no emissions data for Haynes Roadster would mean I do not need a CAT?

My understanding from the IVA manual and some more knowledgable people on here is all to do with the "Effective date" mentioned in the manual.

The "effective date" of your car will be Jan 1st immediately preceding the manufacture date of the engine. If the effective date is after Aug 95 then the tester has to apply the more stringent Cat test.

If the effective date is before Aug 95 then the test applied is very much easier to meet non Cat emmisions.
