I see, didn't realise there were other items that would affect it such as headlights.
I don't have a donor but one without pats is going to be very rare. The reason for doing this is that there are never any pre 95 engines for sale and I would also prefer a newer engine as there are lots around cheap and should be more reliable. Another question, do all zetec's have the same wiring/connectors? Could I use a newer engine but try to find a ecu/loom from a car without pats? And when I find a donor, pats or no pats. How hard is it to remove the loom? I've heard it can be a bit of a nightmare. |

You are way of the mark. The immobilizer can be armed and disarmed with it sat on my dinning table. http://youtu.be/I0a4Eg0e2bw The eec 4 +5 ecu's are not of a canbus design. The 97 on ecu's are much nicer than older ecu's due to suporting Obd2. I can connect my phone to the ecu and monitor its perimiters. Why disable the pats ? Its very easy to use if you have the rdif chip from the key and gives your kit what was a thatcham aproved immobilizer. Ive been doing them for years, its a much better set up than webers and bike carbs and will pass iva (with a cat) with NO messing. Any one want to donate a jag s type as I fancy a new challange and it should also be ford bassed. http://youtu.be/Pxq4ks2Us_U http://youtu.be/BKqeCjdBM0w

Looks like you really know your stuff with all this, It would be handy to keep the obd2 connector even just to read fault codes.
You should do some sort of guide as to how you have set yours up, looks like you have spent a lot of time and effort figuring out the setup. |

Ive thought about doing an "how to" but there are just to many vairables to cover all the ecu's. Ive done a year and model specific set of instrucion but out of the six people that have had a go, only three have got it running.
Functions / pin numbers and colours are differant depending on model spec and year. Getting it wrong can cause damage or even fire. None are that hard when you know how it works. But I do love engine managment systems and the engines. I am a big fan of using the oe ecu. It starts on the button and idles as a factory car would. It has instant power and torque with good economy. Best of all its plug and play, there is no tunning. I will agree, power will be down a touch on other set ups but not by as much as you would think. A four branch mani and a free flowing inlet set up should see a well proven (in fast ford circles) 150bhp. 165 is prety much the max on a zetec with out head work and cams. So what price is the 15bhp worth to You ????????? The more you make the less you spend..... To give you an idea.... Ecu and rdif chips.....just nipped up the post office to pick up a £10 ebay ecu. Came with two rdif chips. Just to show how few wires are needed to arm and dis-arm the immobilzer, a picture.
