Fingers crossed for you snapper
The importance of good quality wiring can never be over stressed. It is so often, very tempting to use scavanged wires for critical components . ________________________________________________ EDIS 4 Yes indeed they do turn up from time to time on the bay. The reason I was asking about suitable donors are two-fold . Firstly if I can remove it myself, I get to have the plug, VR sensor & coil pack. Secondly, If buying other things at the breakers at the same time, all of the above will be thrown in for next to nothing if not free. Twas up the breakers last week. Needed an alternator for my nephews Mondeo. Whilst I was about it, I removed a pair of good 2 litre Zetec cams to use on my 1.8 build. Charged £10 for the alternator, cams thrown in for free !!?? Bargain.

More and more problems with the Megajolt so wired the jolt, edis and coil to the battery (with a simple switch so i can turn it off) runs fine to 4500rpm then pops and bangs.
This is what i did to isolate the fault, with the total help of the Autosparkslabs forum. Run car, 4500rpm ignition fails unplug Megajolt, start car ( car should run at 10 degs from EDIS alone) rev to 4500, ignition drop out. replace EDIS, no megajolt rev to 4500, ignition drop out replace coil pack, rev to 4500, ignition drop out. At this point i should add that i have a complete V2, EDIS, Coil pack spare. I have rewired the loom with all new cable and proper shielded stuff for pip saw and VR sensor. I have replaced VR sensor, cable and plug previously replaced VR sensor with older one, no spark at all, threw it in the bin. Noted face of VR sensor has been shaved by toothed wheel and slight marks in the side of sensor from locking bolt. Replaced VR sensor with one from Trigger-wheels.com, revs to +5500rpm no problems. Take it for a spin achieve 6800 red line. The only way to check the sensor is to use a scope but its the VR sensor (and bracket) that is the weak link so check that and the plug/cable first. Hope this saves people some angst |

That information may very well come in handy for future reference.
Those blooming sensor problems can be a real barsteward to diagnose Is all well with your setup now !!??

Ronnie, so far so good.
I will be taking the car further afield as the weeks go by (carrying spares of every thing) with AA card in hand. Project 2 is to rebuild the Megajolt V2 on a board with sensor and plugs as a complete plug and go testbed. Project 3, is a rebuilt 2.1 Pinto with Cosworth Rods and V6 pistons, this will have a much firmer VR sensor bracket. The one on my car was built for a fast road Sierra and is to low for safety. |

Good news then
You can never have enough spares I have been quite lucky on my last few visits to the breakers. Found a few Edis modules, a few spare coil packs, 1 nearly new & lots of spare sensors. Keep up the good work, you may be my savior at a later date.

My next modification is the twin ignition map modification, all the wiring is in place on the V3 Megajolt ( and i may open the V2 to do the solder wire mod) but i do confess to having great difficulty getting the firmware upgraded to work.
My biggest problem is that i use Macs most of the time so when it comes to using the home laptop my brain shrinks and hides in the corner of my skull till i feed it beer, then the laptop has won, again. |
