The action of my clutch is just fine now I have the correct bearing.
1.8 Zetec flywheel & Mk1 Mondeo 1.6/1.8 clutch. When I first tried it with the relase bearing that was sold to me as a CCT133, the clutch arm was almost touching the bell housing before it released the clutch ( Way too close for comfort ) As it turned out the release bearing sold to me, was in fact the standard CCT132 I now have the correct bearing & all is good So, same clutch & flywheel combo as Coozer has works for me

Ok so this is what I've tried in the past:
1.8 Zetec flywheel (the one with the bevelled edge) from '93 car with clutch cover, on stock Sierra type 9 with cast iron bellhousing, and sierra CCT 132 release brg. and got same result as you Ronnie. Replaced '93 flywheel with '99 flywheel and clutch ( because I had one to hand ) but no different. Replaced CCT 132 with CCT 133 but this brg wouldn't fit on first motion cover sleeve as the sleeve was too big! ( Brg intended for 2000e type gearbox with smaller FMC sleeve). Tried Transit CCT 303 but the brg was a bit too big and didn't sit on the clutch cover fingers properly. Got peed off and machined the Zetec flywheel (as retro ford and 105speed) to take standard Sierra clutch. Weyhey this works good! Since by this time I had spent way more on parts than a Burton flywheel I could have done that from the start and made my life easy. But I'd still like to know why the combo everyone else says works wouldn't work for me...... BV. |

That is certainly a mystery there BV
Being as the thing that seemed to be causing you all the grief was the FMC sleeve of the gearbox .... Is it possible, that gearbox started life in a diesel powered Sierra ??? Sold quite a few diesel gearboxes to petrol heads that want a bit more oomph from their ride One thing for sure, I know what it feels like to end up spending more than you would have done on an off the shelf option I guess that is one of the hazards of dealing with the now elderly Sierra .... Very likely to have some mix'n match components !! Just for the sake of this thread & future reference My type 9 gearbox is from a 1991 Sierra estate ( Known to be the original box ) My engine is from a early 1992 1.8 Mk5 Escort hatch, Silvertop Zetec & known to be the cars original engine.

Hi Ronnie,
It wasn't the FMS sleeve that was the problem it was the smaller inner of the alleged CCT133! and it happened twice... First time with a brand new '93 mondeo zetec to an '88 saphine 1.8 pinto type 9 box then again last year with a '99 black top to an '84 capri type 9. Both genuine QH release brgs in unopened packaging! The brgs I was supplied didn't look like the one you have in the picture as CCT133 I'm not bothered as both times I overcame the problem with a re-machined flywheel which allows the use of the correct RWD clutch and as I'm not using ford running gear for my roadster It'll not be a problem |

Hi BV
I guess that is going to remain one of life's big unsolved mysterys The CCT133 bearing in the picture was also a QH boxed product To be Honest, I could have altered the clutch fork to suit the bearing that came with the Mondeo clutch kit as that would have given me enough throw. When I measured the inside diameter of both bearings with my digital wotsit, They came out the same but when I tried the Mondeo bearing on the input shaft of the gearbox it felt a tiny bit sloppy At least you are all sorted now & can treat this as one of those Grrrr moments of the build

I must just be lucky, so far 5 zetecs, 3 silvertops and 2 blacktop ST170's... 4 different type 9's all running 1.8 flywheels with Mondeo clutches and Capri bearings.... all went together and worked first time!

BV, that's really strange. The QH catalogue lists that during the years 74-78 1.6 Capri's had both 22 mm 20 spline shafts and 25.4 mm 23 spline shafts. Both use the same CCT133 bearing! On Cortina this bearing was used only on the 22 mm shaft, but on Capri it was used on both.
P.S. Obviously, Sierra Type9 boxes have the 23 spline, 1" shafts.
