Make sure you pull off the timing cover and ,make sure the timing tensioner blade is in good order.

This is what a new, Upgraded genuine ford blade looks like. they tend to wear through the nylon slipper and then through the metal ( not as strong on the early version ) and then the blad snaps. The chain goes loose and the timing slips, the valves hit the head ... ETC...

You need to check this and that the guides for the chains are also in good order.

how much would it cost to replae them if they are worn?

what other test do you do on an engien to see if its sound when it all ready out of the car?

http://shop.ebay.co.uk/?_from=R40&_t...All-Categories

Note, the Ukrainian ones are made with a less tough slipper material.

Main thing will be to check that blade ad the other timing componnets for ware. check the oild pump for debris in the strainer, although this is going to need to be modified anyway to allow for the shorter sump.

Note: The cam cover gaskets are not available from any normal source. They were never provided seperatly by ford and only came with the cam cover complete. So if you damage one, go to boostperformance for a remanufactured replacement.
