VIN Position
Hi,
pretty much as it says. Is it acceptable to stamp the vin on to the ali side panel where it wraps round the frame in the engine bay or does have to be on the frame itself? I've already stamped it, not sure if its IVA passable. Its not as if the side panel can be removed easily. I've got the feeling I'll be re-stamping |

Hi Daz
Got a sneaky feeling that the VIN number has to be on the chassis frame. I believe the most popular place to put it, is on the cross brace in the engine bay ( One above the steering shaft ) As far as I am aware, it is still OK to stamp it on a piece of plate & weld on. Sure one of the Post IVA boys will be along dreckly

It needs to be stamped on the chassis and also on a plate fastened elsewhere on the vehicle

Cheers fellas,
have already got the ali plate off fleebay, I thought as much about the positioning. I'll cut some ali out and stamp it again. My engine bay brace is on the near side, so thats out. Thanks again. |

Best thing is to stamp it onto 16g piece of steel, then weld that to the chassis, somewhere on the right hand side of the engine compartment. If necessary cut away a bit of the body side where it folds over the top of the outer rail, so that the VIN is visible when the bonnet is removed.
That's what Westfiled do (although their's is under the nosecone) and the welded on palte is IVA ok |
