sierra front hubs
I have a pair of sierra front hubs but they have a pinch bolt for the lower ball joint which obviously means the maxi joint is unsuitable. I have found some seperate lower ball joints for the escort V and V1 and wondered if anyone knew whether they would be suitable with an alteration to the wishbone plate hole pattern.

They will be cosworth front hubs by the sound of it.
And yes the escort bottom ball joints have the correct taper. TT

i might be totally wrong but would those ball joints interfere with the angle part of the lower wishbone, with the way they are fastened to the wishbone plate they look quite long in the fixing point.
like i say " i might be wrong" but worth checking the dimensions Andy. cheers andy

The joints in this picture these appear to have an angle set into them and would probably bolt to the underside of the plate with the taper protruding through.

One other thing to be weary of. The Cosworth uses a slightly different suspension set up to the normal 2WD cars. So the geometry may not be quite right with the Roadster bines.

I have been looking at the proposed joints picture, fatal on my part to try & make a judgement call looking at a photo
I am thinking that what HandyAndy meant was the actual length of the flat mounting section. It very much looks as if the rear-most fixing hole will be very close to where the lower shock mount needs to be welded to the wishbone plate ( Sods law says that it will be slap bang in the middle ) !!?? The angle of the joint also looks to be slightly more accute, that said you would be able to loose or gain a degree or Two when fabricating the wishbones. As TT said, it's worth doing a bit of research on your hubs geometry. If they turn out to be Cossie hubs, why not sell them & use the proceeds to buy some standard ones ? . It may make life a whole lot easier for you Besides, I would imagine that Cossie hubs are worth a few £££'s

my point i was trying to make is precisely what Ronnie has said, again , i might be wrong but the angle of the ball joint in relation to the 10 degree angle of the wishbone to my eye looks like the 2 mating surfaces won,t sit flush with eachother, plus the possibility of the fixing point of the bolt that would be closest to the lower shock mounting bracket looks to be a tad close. but then again " i could be wrong ". i,ve seen sierra front uprights come up on the bay for approx £20 to £25 cheers andy

i have a spare set i got off a front suspension from ebay
was going to keep them as spare but if you need them i might sell or swap |
