Wheel information
I've been trying to get some wheels I like, but am having trouble. As I'm following the book and actually building on a budget, I'm trying to get some off ebay. It seems that virtually all Ford alloys (apart from newer cars) will do. But I'm having trouble with the offset. I know the ideal is listed as something like 38-42mm, but on what width alloy? If I get a 6.5" alloy whats the offset meant to be?
The main concern is that the wheels on the back are going to sit miles in from the arches and looks stupid If anyone has Photos and Info of what they have fitted, it would help loads. |

mine are 15inch by 6.5 inch wide and et38 they are about an inch in from the edge of the wheel arch. does that help?
i looked at used ford wheels but gave up. i found lots of sets that i liked but they usually needed new tyres. so if i paid say £100 for them then 4 new tyres at £40 a corner it added up to £260 for a set of used wheels that could be buckled or flat spotted. i got my brand new team dynamics wheels with new tyres for £300. ended up being a no brainer. |

i,m using Ford puma wheels, got them second hand from the bay, £40 and collected them, yes they need new tyres but have sourced some Toyo TR1x tyres at £127 for the 4 so this worked out ok for my budget, but ideally i would,ve like to have done the same as Ash, Halfrauds have some nice wheel/tyres sets for sale around £260 to £300 per set,
I,ll maybe do this when passed the test. cheers andy

So if I understand this correctly, If I got a set of alloys with a smaller offset. Say a peugeot 15mm offset. My tyre will site 23mm closer to that rear arch? (assuming same 195/50/15 tyre)

yes the higher the ofset the further in the wheel would be. to be honest i wouldn't go out more than et30 as you may get handling problems. at the end of the day your building a roadster because you want a fast good handling car, if you ruin the handling then you have kind of defeated the point of the car.
this is the side of mine i personally think the wheels are fine under my arches. |
