Seat mounting crush tubes

Hello all,

For mounting my seats, I welded in 2 25mmx25mm box sections cross members between the chassis outside and the transmission tunnel for each seat. To fit my seats onto these I believe I need to put in crush tubes?

Can I simply buy some seamless metal tubing and weld it in place for the bolts to go through? If so, what wall thickness should I get? Or do crush tubes need to be a special strength to comply with IVA regs?

I don't recall anyone else using crush tubes. I can't see that it would be needed personaly as the bolts don't have to be high torqued.

I'm sure I heard it once but I didn't bother and my car went through iva fine.

I welded in 5mm thick flat bar into the bottom of my floor and used this toount the seats. They are very sturdy.

I may not bother then.

The bolts will be going through 16swg 25x25mm box section and 2mm aluminium floor. If needs be I can go with David's suggestion and put an extra bracing plate on the top of the box section or something?

I have my drivers side on 3 x 40mm plate welded to the chassis and riveted to the floor, with the seat runner on top.
The passenger side is 25mm box with the seat straight on top so they are the same height.
They seem to be fine and had no complaints at iva.
