Default Bike silencer

I've been offered my makes Carbon fibre bike exhause from his CBR600.

I'm in two minds about it as someone told my not too, as the ammount of preassure from my 1.8 Zetec is greater than his bike and would cause back preassure?

On the other hand I was told you go by the BHP, His bike is 110BHP and the Zetec is 105BHP (when it was new )

what do you think?

Thanks in advance
Dean

I think that "by BHP" way is more accurate.

Bike exhausts are usually less restrictive and louder... especially racing cans - exhaust pipe diameter is larger than standard Zetec.
Another "pro" thing is that CBR revs to 13000rpm and Zetec max. rpm are about 7000... so even 600cc bike engine produce lot of exhaust gases...

For me - this should be OK

A CBR 600 revs to around 12,000rpm and takes 2 revolutions to fire all cylinders, so its shifting around 3594 litres of air per minute. Your 1.8 litre engine only goes to 6500 rpm, so it shifts around 5850 litres a minute. Therefore your 1.8 litre engine moves 60% more air per minute than a CBR 600.

Does the 2.5mm radius rule still apply the the silencer as some have tail pipes coming from them that are not rolled over

Yes unfortunately even your exhaust tip needs a radius / rolled end.

I have a Micron exhaust on my car, It is a bike one but I have no idea which bike it is for, I picked it up at an auction for £2
It is louder than the packed Caterham one I had on the car before but when held at a set number of revs (as per the IVA test) it is quite reasonable. It's when you rev the car that it barks somewhat. I have not got a db meter yet, I intend to buy one soon. My gut feel is that it will pass but not by a big margin. It looks smart and all the edges are rounded, it will pass the radius tests without modification, I could not say that of the Caterham one, hence the change. If it is too loud I will insert a pipe that is a tight fit in the exit pipe and is 2/3 the length of the chamber. This should bring the noise down without causing much restriction.
Enoch.
