Default mirrors

Ive currently got chrome bike mirrors on stalks which work and look fine but ive noticed some slight cracking in the GRP around the stalk bases on the scuttle. Would spreader plates inside the scuttle resolve this or swould i need to change to more solidly mounted mirrors ?

I got around this by mounting the mirrors through the steel windscreen brackets and making spreader pates for the inside of the scuttle.
