Default Zetec vs s2000 engine

Hi all,

we are planning another build, we are thinking about zetec 2.0 or an engine from S2000, the price for s2000 engine and gearbox is about £3200, I have found zetec 2.0 for £990 but without gearbox. (is there some other place in UK where to find engine and stuff?)

The question is, can the 2.0 Zetec engine plus some gearbox and with some modification be for better price ration than the complet s2000 engine?

I mean s2000 has 240HP stock and how much money would I have to put to Zetec to make it at least 200HP?

What do you thing is a better overall solution?

If you've got the budget then go for the S2000 engine every time, its a fantastic engine and would kick the pants of any Zetec. It also revs to 9.5k and would make an awesome drive. To get the Zetec to that kind of power will cost a lot of money. Try Burton Power website they specialise in Ford engines and tuning.

The S2000 engine is comparable to the Rotary Rx-8 engine, i'm sticking with the rotary because i love the engine.

To get 200bhp N/a out of the zetec you will need cams a good head porting aswell as Throttle bodies and ecu with good maping. Also a good exhaust manifold.

you could do it in stages.

Im not too much familliar with zetec upgrades, could you tell me please what exact kind of cams, throttle bodies and ecu, I know where to get these things in our country for example for bmw, honda and so on but for ford its best to look for in the UK, but am not sure where

One more thing, what steering rack would you recommend, 2.9 or 2.4, isn't 2.4 "too hard" ?

if you get the s2000 engine will you be using the s2000 rear diff ?

honda engines rotate the opposite way so if you used a sierra diff you,d go really really fast just backwards !!!

id say s2000 all the way just for the vtec engagement but cost is huge with them

If I get the F20C engine from Honda, I would have to use with some modifications it's rear diff as well.

Here in Slovakia we are particiating on slalom race where the cars are divided according the size of the engine, up to 1.4, up to 1.6, up to 2.0 up to 3.0 and above that, and I'd like to stay in the category up to 2.0 liters thats why I dont want turbo or compressor

I believe the S2000 engine rotates the right way, the FWD Honda engines rotate the wrong way.
Zetec ST170 + some cams and head work will get near 200bhp
The Duratec ford especially the 2.3 will go to 200 easy, 250 with work to 300 with loads of money
