Steering Support Frame Problems
Hello all, thought it best to put this as an individual part in the correct area:
I am having major problems getting the steering support frame sorted. Ignoring the fact I'm using the MT mod tunnel for now, I've cut the tubes SW1,2&3 and can't work out how they fit! Taking SW1, as far as I can make out the 25' angle is the wrong way round for the parts to fit! have tried putting together end to end (the only way the frame could fit that i can see) and SW2 sits around 20mm low! Am I being a massive idiot or is this a common problem? |

Hi Oscar,
The compound angle on SW1 is incorrect in the book, It should be 40 degree cut with a 19 Degree compound angle . Cheers Andy

i had trouble with this too. i tacked sw1 to sw2 and the plates as well. then i tacked the plates and sw1 to the chassis and then tried to match up sw3 to sw2. can't remember exactly but think it makes the support from a little bit sideways. as in the steering column doesn't come directly backwards parallel to the side of the car but angles slightly to the outside edge of the car. if that makes sense at all?
was just my way of doing it

Have cut my SW1 using the (40) and (23) degree angles for the RHS.
So do SW1 and 2 definately meet end to end at 25 plus 25 degrees? |

Also, does SW1 attatch to the top or side of TR2?
Seen a couple of variations in plans... |

i attached mine to the top but others have put it to the side, i think so that body work can fit nicely. but i guess i'll find that out when i get my bodywork!

Right, got fed up and made a wooden jig! Went much better but did involve holding 4 things at once...
Attatched SW1 to the top with SW2 attatched, got it positioned (eventually!) and made SW3 to fit. When looking from the side SW1 and 3 are about 2 degrees different but this should be easy to accomodate when I put the steering supports in place. Thanks for the help guys, and for anyone who gets to this point: Make a Jig!! |
