Default New Vin number application?

Hello All!

I'm back on the build again and its about time I stamp the VIN# on the chassis... But the big question is do I use the number i was assigned 5 years ago and risk it not being valid. Or do I apply for a new one?

What do you guys think? Also anyone have any letter templates for the application?

Thanks!
Alex

Ok my understanding of it is
IF ; the vin number was issued to you by dvla not one made up by the builder then that number would stay with the issuing letter to the original applicant as builds take a varied amount of time to complete
All vins now have to be issued by dvla therefore if it is a "homemade" vin then you will have to apply to kits and rebuilds , dvla for a new one or risk failing the iva at the first hurdle
If in any doubt give kits and rebuilds a call on 01792782069

yeah the VIN i was issued was from the DVLA but it was a good 5 years ago. I phoned them and they have sent me a V55/4 to register a new vehicle..... Don't think this is the right one to be issued a Vin number.... Person on the phone was very unhelpful and could not care less. Any advice as to how to actually apply for one and get one? lol

Hi I sent a letter stating that I was building and required a VIN number for the iva sent to Donna kennett, kits and rebuilds dvla Swansea sa99 1zz

Did you phone the number above ? And ask to speak to Donna at kits and rebuilds, I found her very helpful unfortunately if you call on their generic number the operators are not very helpfull
Do you still have the paperwork as you have an allocated reference number on there
Any probs give me a shout, goodluck

The forms you will need are V55/5 and V627/1 . The first is a generic form for all manner of vehicles and the next is a built up vehicle form. I have dealt with Danielle Dymond at Kits and Rebuilds and have found her extremely helpful - even when I got something wrong!
The phone number I had for her was 01792 786053 not sure what you have

Good news! Amanda over at kits and rebuilds sorted me out a new VIN number the same day as after 2 days of searching I could not find it at all. So now I need to sort out the Chassis plate.

From what i understand from the IVA Inspection manual i would like to have this...

Manufacture/Make: Me!
Model: Skyline Roadster
Vin: DVLASWA3***********

Do I have to also include the weights as I don't have a clue at the moment.

No you don't have to put the weights on the vin plate
As an aside my Haynes with steel floor / seat back panel / sides and with windscreen went through iva with the following weights
Kerb weight axle 1 370kg
Kerb weight axle 2 274kg
Weight with driver axle 1 400kg
Weight with driver axle 2!460kg
And the bit your interested in
Design weight axle 1 450kg
Design weight axle 2 550kg
Design gross weight 1000kg

Hope that's of some help and remember you also need the vin number permantly on the chassis front offside either stamped engraved or on a plate seam welded to the frame tubes

All I put on mine 3 years ago. I got the plate off ebay. It was an engraved trophy type plaque. I think it only cost about £2.50
