Default Type 9 or MT75?

What do you prefere?

Also out of interest, are the ratio's different? What would be best for acceleration?

Personally i opted for type 9 as can be bolted to different motors with a suitable bellhousing and its a bit smaller,im going for the 4age 20v motor.

BGH Geartech do uprated gearboxes to cope with more power and also offer different ratios.I opted for the heavy duty one to cope with 240bhp.

Type 9 is smaller and has more after market components / spares available for it. Also with the change of bellhousing it can be swapped between engines.

Also both gearboxes were available with different ratios off different models and years.

In a lightweight car the type 9 should handle bigger power than they do in the sierra, although in the sierra the most power they ever saw was about 115BHP in 4 pot and 150BHP in v6 version. However the V6 version was put behind TurboTechnics cars usualy producing up to 230BHP ( both 2 and 4WD ). I had a type 9 that had failed behind a 263HP 2.9 TwinTurbo though.

The MT75 can take 300BHP easily. Although that's usualy behind a Blown Cossy motor where the inital torque is quite low. Ford claim that they opted not to fit the MT75 to the Cosworth Granada as it was thought that it would not be able to reliably handle the torque generated over time. Again in a light weight application the amount of torque needed to get the thing moving is much lower.

If you have a V6 then the MT75 is usualy out as the box is rare in RWD form, Type 9's are getting rare.

If you have a 4 Pot then MT's are more common but type 9's are not difficult to get hold of.

The MT is a much more refined box, and was designed as a 5 speed.

The Type 9 has a vast array of spares and is easy to rebuild compared to the MT

Ratios on the Type 9 are generaly regarded as better than the MT, but ultimatly that's a function of box + diff.
