bike carbs on a cvh
hi
i have a 1.8 cvh engine and thinking about putting bike carbs on. if i do this, do i need to make any other alterations to engine. wiring etc? also, if anyone has done this, where did they get them from and what did it cost roughly. i have found one place and they say roughly £320 for 4carbs and manifold. thanks for any help steve |

Woah there sweet child of mine. £320 I paid £40 for some 750cc carbs.
You need some carbs that produced the same or a little more BHP than your engine. Ash’s experience when we went and got his pinto tuned on the rolling road taught me loads, it is all in CKC. Cheers Ginge

we,ll be gentle CKC .... complete kit car magazine Ash g is a member on here and all round good egg is currently writing his build for ckc mag............." aimho is doing a bloody good job " it is featured quite heavily in the mag..........it really is good stuff...... there are loads of options open to you, if you want to go bike carb.. i would try one of these options fone Bogg bros.... really good stuff and pay well for it ....ask me how i know but you wont see a better quality bit of kit...see our photos... source your own carbs ..everything from 600cc up seems to have been used if you are using megajolt then try and find a set with a TPS makes life easier contact 3ge or look on the net for manifold plate tubes and research and DIY buy some carbs and contact ....fastdan or similar on locostbuilders and get him to sort it out fone gbs see what they have got available dont forget you can have spaced or unspaced carbs depends on your criteria there really is no definitive route but bike seems to work really well and some reports say better than twin 40 dcoe webbers.. any more questions please ask cheers les g |

Hi Steve. as the others have said CKC is the magazine that publishes my ramblings about building a roadster.
the issue with the first roadster article started in July 09, since then i have wrote an article every month. the final roadster article will be April 2010 which will total 10 full articles. I kind of hope that CKC will do a booklet with all my articles as it would be nice for me to have and I'm sure some of my ramble could be useful others. Jan and Feb 2010 are the issues you want for the bike carb stuff, it covers putting them on a pinto rather than cvh but the basic principles of making the inlet manifold are in the jan article and tuning them is covered in the feb article |

thanks guys. that has been really useful. i will certainly buy the ckc magazine you mentioned.
one last thing, if i do use bike carbs, do you still use same fuel pump or do i have to buy something else thanks again |

it is best to buy the fuel pump from the bike that the carb s come from as they are auto pressure limiting

ZX6r carbs with tps £40 ZX6r fuel pump £25 Pre built Megajolt kit from triggerwheels £250 Home made manifold using the alloy flange chopped off the donor manifold £20 You will also need to make a remote thermostat housing as this used to be part of the donor inlet manifold, easily done though. Im not even sure what gains will be made on the cvh but my thinking was when i go zetec its all there ready to be swapped once i make a new manifold. So i wont have to start modifying the wiring loom. Another benefit is that you wont have to cut the bonnet as you would if using the standard carb. Bogg brothers manifolds are a work of art but very pricey, worth it if you are using the engine long term but not in my opinion if its only goona be in there for Iva or a year before upgading. |
